I received a Peanuts PEZ dispenser for Christmas and I shared my gift with several different groups of kids. Some kids didn’t know what they were or what they did. Once they found out candy was involved, their eyes lit up in amazement. I asked them if they would still like them if they dispensed broccoli, beets, etc. As we played with the PEZ characters, I couldn’t help but wonder what life would be like if we could all be like PEZ dispensers – always dispensing sweet things out of our mouths. We determined that we can by using kind words. We challenged ourselves and would like to challenge you to speak encouraging words to others, as well as ourselves.
We found help to meet our goal in Ephesians 4:29-32 (Message version): “Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift. Don’t grieve God. Don’t break His heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for Himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted. Make a clean break with all cutting, back-talking, profane talk. Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you.”
